Update: Midsummer Thoughts

I hope everyone is doing well, enjoying the summer and staying safe. Steve and I are staying at home, working in our garden, doing home repairs and working on some new projects that will be coming out this fall and winter. We are so excited!

I just finished making a welcome video for the new CK Washington Online Training Program for English teachers. I’m one of the authors for their new Readers Theater Series.

This storybook series features traditional Chinese stories. We’ll have teaching ideas at the portal for using Readers Theater in the classroom and at home. I’ll have links to the portal later this summer when it is launched.

With projects, it’s always takes me some time and thought to narrow down ideas into workable steps. It’s like gardening: first I get an idea to grow food, next I research and decide on the types of flowers, trees and edible plants I want, then finally I plan where the plants will go and how to plant and maintain them. Creative ideas are the same—they need planning, action and nurturing to get started. Here are some of the projects I’ve been working on this summer.

The first project is an ongoing project, the Bunny and Bugs Multimedia website and blog. I built this website and blog last year using the JavaScript React library. It is a never-ending project of love, continual updates and redesign. The blog alone is an immense amount of work with a wide array of topics for blog posts planned for the rest of the year. I’m looking forward to sharing them with you as I create, develop and build apps for mobile devices and the web, write songs and stories, and animate characters for my stories and songs.

The second project I am developing is a ukulele app for mobile devices. I am using Flutter, an open-source UI toolkit created by Google, which is used to build apps for both Android and iOS using a single code base. It’s fun and challenging to build apps with Flutter but also reassuring since I already have skills building websites and web apps with React.

The third project is a new QuirkyDale story. I wrote the story a few years back but never finished revising it. Now I am reworking the story and will publish it as an ebook, print and audio book.

I’d like to end this post with an animated GIF of my tomato starts that I made in March while they we’re just inside. They’re now outside and they have tomatoes on them!

Continue to stay safe and enjoy this summer with your friends and family!
